Swollen Thanlwin River: Low-Lying Areas In Hpa-An Inundated

Than Lwin River has exceeded its danger mark in Hpa-an, Kayin State starting 5th August morning due to the torrential rains, inundating the wards in the low-lying areas.

According to the observations at 3:30 pm MST on the 5th August, the water level of Than Lwin River reached at 760-cm above its danger marks. Due to the heavy rains, flash floods have happened and the low-lying areas in Hpa-An such as Nos.1, 2 and 5 wards have been inundated.

In the afternoon of that day, the strong wind blew and it caused to fall the electricity posts in No.4 ward. Official from Hpa-An District Fire Brigade said they are making arrangements to undertake measures promptly for restoring the fallen posts in normalcy and preparatory measures are being carried out for in case of natural disasters.

Official from the Township Administrative Department also said that they are monitoring the water level now and will alert people to rising the River depending on the condition.

The Meteorology and Hydrology Department also announced people living near the river bank and low-lying areas to be aware of flash flood due to swollen Than Lwin River.
