The first time trash collection for the month of January in 2020 by youth volunteers took place in Mandalay Region.

The youth volunteer group Trash Hero Mandalay has completed the first trash cleanup in January around Yae Sit Kan in Mandalay Region. The activity came after the group launched an awareness programme to perform trash cleanup in the areas of Mandalay Region, said Chapter leader from Trash Hero Mandalay. Most of the youths who participated in the activity were from schools and universities.

Chapter Leader, Trash Hero Mandalay, Nay Linn Tun said “We have three objectives - to clean the Mandalay Region as much as we can; to raise public awareness on our trash cleanup activity; and to make a reform regarding with plastics using.”

The trash collection by the Group happens at least twice a month mainly in tourism areas of Mandalay Region.

Chapter Leader, Trash Hero Mandalay, Nay Linn Tun said “We are selling T-shirt at a price of 2,500 kayts that we bought at a price of 2,200 kyats. We get a profit of 300 kyats, and we use it to buy trash gloves, trash bags and trash pickers. Well-wishers give us snacks and gloves.”

Plastic items take too many years to decompose, for example, plastic bottles may take up to about 500 years to decompose. Mainly, trash collection is to avoid dangers of plastic and to become a better clean environment said the chapter leader.

Chapter Leader, Trash Hero Mandalay, Nay Linn Tun said “I feel satisfied that youths joined the trash collection. I really appreciate their participation. We have difficulties to place the collected trash. Mandalay City Development Committee helps us to solve the difficulties.”
