Working Group meeting: MoHT Union minister attended the meeting

The 52nd Greater Mekong Sub-Region Tourism Working Group meeting and Board meeting of Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office was held with hybrid system in Nay Pyi Taw in Tuesday morning with the presence of the Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Thet Thet Khaing.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that greater Mekong sub-region is famous for its unique cultures, scenic beauty, rich in tourist destination places such as historical places, cultural heritage sites to attract international visitors.

Aiming for the development of tourism industry of Greater Mekong Sub-region, collective efforts are needed among Mekong - Lancang member countries, she added. She also said that before COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, there were 73.6 million visitors’ entry to greater Mekong sub-region and earned 101 billion USD, agreement for establishing Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office makes smooth collaboration among member countries and it can create strengthen tourism sector of greater Mekong sub-region.

During the meeting, discussion on improvement of tourism sector among member countries, digital tourism, tourist destination places, matters for the development of basic infrastructures, Greater Mekong Sub-Region Long-Term Strategic Framework 2030 and future cooperative processes were made.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism, Permanent Secretary, Director General, leaders of Tourism Authority and delegations from Laos PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam and many other concerned officials.

Likewise, delegations from Asian Development Bank-ADB, Cambodia, China, ASEAN-Japan Centre and Asia-Pacific Tourism  Association joined the meeting via online system. It’s reported that Board meeting of Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office will be continued on 22nd November.
