The inspection team of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission conducted an inspection trip to Myaung Mya and Labutta Townships of Ayeyawady Region from 5th to 7th February. In accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law, the inspection team inspected the Myaung Mya Police Lock-Up and Court Detention Center, focusing on the conditions of the remand period of detainees, family visits, food supply, and water sanitation systems.

At the prison, they conducted inspections according to MNHRC laws and procedures to ensure that prisoners and detainees enjoy fundamental rights, including appropriate food supply, access to healthcare, and provision of adequate purified water, as well as the cleanliness of police lock-ups and court detention centers.

The inspection team inquired with prisoners to ensure access to personal items and items sent by families, availability of family visits, and to investigate any reports of human rights violations or torture cases within the prison and detention centers. Additionally, the inspection team conducted private interviews with prisoners who wished to meet with them freely and privately.

They also inspected various facilities within the prison, including dormitories, clinics, libraries, kitchens, food storage areas, and water purification and sanitation systems. At the Labutta Youth Strength Training School, the team inspected whether students received fundamental human rights, including access to healthcare services, food supply, provision of adequate purified water, availability of citizenship Scrutiny Cards, support programs for physical and mental development, as well as rights to education, vocational training, communication with their families, reintegration with their families, and freedom of religion.

The MNHRC will send recommendations to relevant departments for necessary action based on the findings during the inspection.
