Sports Sector: VSG addresses inter-university sports competition

Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win on Tuesday afternoon addressed the opening of the 2023-2024 academic year inter-university sports competition at the Wunna Theikdhi Stadium (B) in Nay Pyi Taw.

In his address, the Vice Senior General highlighted benefits of sports including physical and mental fitness and team work. University sports activities in Myanmar have had a history of success since 1917. From December 6th to 13th, 1969, the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games was successfully held in Yangon, and more university athletes participated in the Myanmar Sports teams.

In the Games, Myanmar earned 57 gold, 46 silver and 43 bronze medals and ranked the 1st. Today, Myanmar has actively participated in the ASEAN University Games and has achieved many successes. Sports sector must be promoted in combination with education in order to turn out healthy and smart youths.

The Vice Senior General also urged all students and young people to pursue sports and strive to become those who will be able to carry benefits to the country with longevity and strength. And, he ceremonially opened the 2023-2024 academic year inter-university sports competition.

Over 1,160 coaches, managers and athletes are participating in this competition from the 9th and 18th of January in designated spots for football, volleyball, track and field, Sepak Takraw and table tennis events.
