Earthquake Drill: Preparedness For Natural Disaster Reduction Program

Led by the Natural Disaster Management Committee, an earthquake drill was conducted at Dawna Bwa ward in Mandalay in collaboration with the residents and social organization.

It aimed for natural disaster reduction program how to make response measures in case of the earthquake and to understand more about the hazards of disaster. 

Head, Mandalay Region Disaster Management Department, Aye Min Thu said “The central Myanmar, especially, around Mandalay region located in Sagaing Fault. We conduct the drill how to practice preparedness measures and response functions if we face the hazard. The program has three parts: demonstration, education and participation. By participating in the activities, people will know what they should do in case of disaster.”

Ward Administrator, Dawna Bwa ward, Chit Aung sai “In our ward, most of people are rural people. We aim the program to raise awareness to them. We have not faced major earthquakes till now. But, sometimes, we face the slight earthquakes. Through the drill, they will know do’s and don’ts and response measures if the disaster happens.”

One of the residents said the drill is very beneficial to them and they know earthquake response measures through activities and practices.

Resident, Myint Swe said “We can’t prevent the natural disasters. But, we should know do’s and don’ts in case of disasters. We have known preparedness and response measures for the quake through practices.”

As part of Natural Disaster Reduction Program, officials conducted the drill how to make response measures in case of the earthquake and in the aftermath of quake to the residents.
