Implementation of Copyright: Central committee meeting held on Copyright

The meeting (2/2022) of Central committee on copyright was held at the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw, Tuesday with an attendance of Chairman of the Central Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win.

In his address, the Vice Senior General said that Myanmar enacted trademark law, Industrial Design Copyright Law, Invention Copyright Law and the Literary and Artistic Copyright Law in 2019. The Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Planning and Finance and the Union Supreme Court are making efforts in their respective sectors for preparations on implementing Copyright Laws.

The Vice Senior General added thatMyanmar joined the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2001. He stressed the needs on speeding up the registration process of copyrights, appointment of experts on trademark law, Industrial Design Copyright Law, Invention Copyright Law and the Literary and Artistic Copyright Law in the central committee, practicing a system that can protect copyright for the development of the state’s economy, increasing foreign investors and transferring high technologies to boost productivity and economic sectors.

The Vice Senior General called In-charge Ministry including in the copyright Central committee, relevant Ministries and NGOs to cooperate in their respective sectors and to implement a copyright system that can develop the state’s economy, social, science and cultural sectors, invention and innovations as soon as possible.

Later, Vice Chair of the Central Committee Union Minister for Commerce U Aung Naing Oo reported on copyrights. Deputy Minister U Nyunt Aung also reported progress of the implementation of the previous meeting decisions. Officials reported on theirs sector-wise implementations on the copyrights and the draft resolutions of the meeting was approved. In response to the reports, the Vice Senior General coordinated essentials and fulfilled the needs.
