In recent weeks, the KIA, TNLA, and PDF terrorists have initiated a series of destructive acts in Kachin State and Sagaing Region, aiming to disrupt government mechanisms. Commencing on January 18th, these groups launched a forceful attack on security posts in Moe Mait, employing tactics such as mass forces, abduction, murder of local residents, extortion, destruction of public infrastructure, and the planting of mines. Responding to these terrorist acts, Tatmadaw columns executed a counter-terrorism operation utilizing artillery and heavy weapons.

After engaging in 16 firefights with the terrorists, Tatmadaw successfully regained control of Moe Mait on January 27th. The security operation continued in the surrounding areas as the terrorists retreated to the north, northeast, and eastern parts of Moe Mait.

During the siege in Moe Mait, the terrorists sought refuge in religious buildings, hospitals, schools, departmental offices, and houses, while strategically placing mines in monasteries, residential areas, and public communication networks, utilizing the local populace as human shields.

Security forces were compelled to operate in adherence to the Rules of Engagement. In the armed exchanges, some members of the security forces sacrificed their lives, while others sustained injuries. The operations resulted in the discovery of various heavy and small weapons, ammunition, grenades, dead bodies of terrorists, and explosive items.

As a consequence of the KIA, TNLA, and PDF terrorist acts, significant damage was inflicted on various infrastructures in the city. Presently, security forces are conducting mine-clearing tasks to ensure the safety of the public. Rehabilitation efforts are underway to facilitate the resettlement of local residents.
