The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a warning of El Niño conditions during February, citing strong Sea Surface Temperatures over the Tropical Pacific Ocean near the Equator and notable atmospheric phenomena.

According to the Numerical Weather prediction models of the International Meteorological Agency, a decrease in the El Niño condition is forecasted, ranging from moderate to strong throughout February.

While El Niño primarily affects the Pacific Ocean, its consequences can lead to a variety of extreme weather events, including irregular rainfall patterns, rising temperatures, unpredictable storm formations, and drought. Consequently, it is strongly advised to proactively prepare across all relevant sectors for potential impacts.
